What to do:
- Get a flu shot
- Wash hands frequently for 20 seconds using soap, hot water, or an alcohol-based sanitizer
- Carry a sanitizer and disposable tissues/cloths with you for use as you travel
- Disinfect frequently used electronic items including cell phones, computers, house phones, remote controls
- Avoid touching your face, eyes, nose and mouth, especially with unwashed hands
- Avoid handshaking, kissing and “air-kissing”
- Cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue which is properly disposed of immediately after use
- Stay home if sick
- Avoid close contact with those who are sick
- Use your knuckle to touch light switches, elevator buttons, mechanically operated buttons
- Wash your hands thoroughly before preparing food, after using the bathroom, and frequenting public transportation
- Stay away from overly-crowded environments
- Avoid or disinfect after touching hand-rails, arm rests, subway and bus balance polls, turnstiles, credit cards, handling money
- Open doors with a tissue or cloth and properly and promptly dispose of it
- Avoid communal salad bars, condiment stations, and publically shared food sources
- Seniors should stay indoors
Items to stock up on:
- Latex or other disposable gloves for use in public places to be properly disposed of after use
- Disposable tissues
- Disposable surgical masks (N95 if possible). Use them to prevent you from touching your nose/mouth
- Hand sanitizers which are alcohol-based and greater than 60% alcohol
- A 14-day supply of medicines and prescriptions
- 14-day supply of water and non-perishable foods
